Ingredient evidence guide

Bitter Melon and Blood Sugar

Bitter melon is one of the six ingredients prominently highlighted on the current GlycoMute offer page.

Evidence note: GlycoMute is a dietary supplement, not a treatment for diabetes. Public-health guidance says evidence for supplements used to manage diabetes is generally limited or inconclusive, and supplements can interact with medicines. Talk with a qualified healthcare professional before use, especially if you take glucose-lowering medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have kidney, liver, or other medical conditions.

What the evidence can tell us

NCCIH groups bitter melon with other herbal supplements studied for diabetes and says the overall research is limited in number, size and quality and has not proven that these herbal products are effective for diabetes.

What it cannot tell us

Evidence on an individual ingredient does not prove the clinical effect of GlycoMute or any other multi-ingredient supplement. Finished products can use different extracts and doses, and interactions between ingredients can change tolerability.

Safety and medication context

Bitter melon may affect glucose. If you use insulin or other glucose-lowering medicine, combining it with supplements should be discussed with your clinician or pharmacist.
